The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) provides eligible households a discount of up to $30 per month off their internet bills (or up to $75 per month for households living on Tribal lands), as well as a one-time discount of up to $100 off an eligible connected device like a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet. In many cases, households can get high-speed internet without paying a dime by choosing a fully covered internet plan. On August 8, 2022, the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) published a PartnerWeb announcement to promote participation in the ACP. This letter serves as a reminder that a household is eligible to participate in the ACP if a child in the household receives free or reduced-price school meals. Therefore, under the ACP rules, every household with a child attending a school participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) of the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program is eligible for ACP benefits is eligible for ACP benefits. Households can learn more and apply for the ACP at GetInternet.gov. While this reminder is specific to schools that are participating in CEP, additional information about eligibility for CEP discount benefits can be found in the School Outreach Toolkit (available in English in PDF/Word and Spanish in PDF/Word) which provides information about other ways households can qualify for the ACP—including through an individual student’s participation in the National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program providing free or reduced price meals; through a household member’s participation in a wide range of other Federal assistance programs like Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and many others; or based on the household’s income (up to 200% of the Federal Poverty Level). State agencies with questions should contact the appropriate FNS Regional Office. It’s #warriorwdnesday and today we would like to recognize Judy Evans, Educational Assistant at Parkview Elementary. Although Judy is new to the classroom at Parkview as an EA, she has spent much of her life in and around teaching. Both her parents were career teachers, she has taught adult and children craft classes, homeschooled her own children for 9 years; teaching has always been inside her, and something she gravitates toward. Judy is currently in her first semester back to college working toward her degree in elementary education, and looks forward to having her own classroom at Parkview one day. She has 4 grown children and one still at home, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. She grew up on a hay farm in the Lemitar area and returned 6 years ago after living in Texas and Colorado for 30 years. #educatenurtureinspire

This #warriorwednesday SCS would like to recognize the retiring teachers from SMS: Mrs. Josephine Silva-Sena has 36 years in education. She has served as a counselor at SHS. She worked at PV and SMS in a variety of positions including librarian, intervention teacher, ELA teacher, and CTE teacher. Ms. Koenia Chavez has served in education for over 28 years, five of which have been at SMS. She says that one of her favorite things about teaching is coming through the school doors and seeing the smiling faces of her students. Mrs. Jane Anderson has worked in Special Education and as an ELA teacher. She has 18 years of experience, 16 of which have been in the SCSD district. She loves watching the "light shine" in students' eyes when they learn something new. Ms. Pauline Nielsen has spent all 27 years at SMS! During that time she has taught 6th grade ELA and history. When she first began at SMS she taught 6th grade in a self contained class. Students only went to another classroom for their electives!
