Attention SHS families, Registration for the 23-24 school year is now open on Power School! All students, both new and returning, need to register. When registering, if there are no changes to a page you will still need to acknowledge that there is no changes. It will not go through if you do not acknowledge that. If you have any issues or questions, you can call or stop by SHS Monday through Thursday between 8 am-3 pm. School phone number is 575-835-0700. Thank you and GO WARRIORS!

There are about 20 Socorro High School seniors who do not have a picture for the El Defensor Chieftain's graduation publication. You only graduate high school once, so we will be shooting cap-and-gown (not needed--dress as you wish) portraits from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday. These pictures will be free, and we will email you high resolution copies upon request.

Our Socorro Rotary Chapter has sponsored two students' attendance of RYLA Camp this summer. Current Juniors (Class of 2024) are eligible to attend, including students graduating early next year. We have advertised this to the students but have not had any students ask to attend. This is an all expenses paid leadership camp opportunity. If you would like your child to participate in this camp, please contact Frances Fuller at 575-838-2543 or ffuller@socorroschools.org so she can connect you with Rotary to get the student registered. Rotary will assist with transportation to the camp. Camp info is below. The Boys RYLA Camp (July 9-15th 2023) and the Girls RYLA Camp (July 15-21, 2023) are aimed toward empowering our youth before their senior high school year through exposure to experts in a variety of fields at a one-week leadership camp held at the beautiful Manzano Mountain Retreat. These experts contribute their time and expertise to our campers’ growth and development at this vulnerable stage of maturity. Examples of speakers in the past have included astronauts, judges, lawyers, physicians, and business owners. Speakers offer the tools and support that campers will be able to develop and rely upon for the rest of their lives. At this same time, experienced and supportive Counselors (2 Counselors per 7 to 10 campers in a cabin) spend the entire week with campers to support and guide campers’ decisions in alliance with the 4-Way Test - the cornerstone of Rotary. Projects are shared including how to bring out the best natural skills of each camper into focus. Many of our alumni have earmarked RYLA as being the best thing in their memories, exposing them to choices of careers, cooperation with others, forging of friendships and support that they would never be able to find anywhere else in their lives. Because the principles of Rotary underlie RYLA Camp activities and projects, campers are exposed to the principles and purposes of Rotary, and many choose to be Rotarians later in their lives.
