Alex Johnson - Athletic Director
It’s a GREAT day to be a Warrior!
Going into such an unprecedented school year where we are all learning virtually and the return of sports is more highly anticipated than ever, I wanted to communicate to you all that this will be a unique year from another standpoint. This year, our Athletic Program will be implementing and adopting the #MVPProcess. This process will be a guide for our coaches and athletes outlining character expectations as long as we are all Warriors.
First, let me start by saying it is an absolute privilege and honor to serve the students of the Socorro Consolidated Schools as Athletic Director. The Socorro Consolidated Schools and the community of Socorro mean so much to the Johnson Family and I can’t think of anything more rewarding than further building upon the rich tradition of Socorro Athletics.
I believe that the best leaders do their very best to teach, lead and coach in three dimensions. First and foremost, an effective leader reaches those entrusted to him or her in the first dimension, the physical. Second, and just as important, the effective leader bridges the gap from the physical to the psychological (body/mind). Finally, effective leaders reach the hearts of those whom they have direct influence over, connecting the body, mind and spirit. This is why my philosophy on education, leadership, and athletics is to strive to transform the hearts of students, student athletes, and coaches to lead with honesty, accountability and influence in their continuous pursuit of academic and athletic excellence through the implementation of Three Dimensional Coaching and Leadership.
With this in mind, the core principles of our program will be:
-Accountability: We do what we say we will do.
-Energy and Work Ethic: We compete in everything we do.
-Family: We always put the team first.
-Integrity : We do what is right at all times.
-Mental and Physical Toughness: We are at our best every play and overcome all adversity.
-Confidence, Belief, and Faith: We trust that our process will bring results.
To me, the principles of Accountability, Energy and Work Ethic, Family, Integrity, Mental and Physical Toughness, Confidence, Belief, and Faith can be summarized by our three Core Values. These core values encapsulate everything we do here in Socorro and they are:
DISCIPLINE: Warriors train their mind, body and soul so that no matter the OBSTACLE the GOAL is achievable.
EFFORT: “The Strength of the Warrior lies in the heart of the bow.” In other words, Warriors compete with an Energy and Work Ethic that is unmatched, never compromising, and worthy of being followed as an example for future Socorro Athletes.
ATTITUDE: Warriors “Compete with Class” so that no matter the outcome, they are winners. WINNERS in the classroom. WINNERS in competition. WINNERS in life.
I am blessed beyond measure to serve this wonderful community but I would not be able to do it without the loving support of my wife Kelsey, my two sons Jacoby Franklin and Amador Russell and my beautiful baby girl Gweneth Lou. Remember, you are resilient, you are valued, you are missed, and no matter the circumstance you are a Warrior and that alone makes you special!
